Description

The target of this course is to provide to the students a comprehensive knowledge on energy worldwide context, link with economy and climate change, renewable energies and more specifically energy from biomass (wood, agricultural residues,…).
1. Energy (history, energy worldwide consumption and usage, link with economy)
2. Fossil fuels: Stock depletion & Climate effects
3. Low-carbon energies : Nuclear, Hydro, Solar, Wind, Biomass
4. Focus on biomass energy : Combustion at domestic & industrial scale, Methanisation, Pyrolysis/Gasification
5. Potentials & limits

Compétences visées

• general knowledge on energy (primary sources, final uses, link with climate change& economy) • the main energy conversion processes to produce energy vectors (electricity, fuels,...) • specific skills related to biomass conversion processes You will be able: • to compute energy content of the feedstocks, energy efficiency of the main processes,... • to design reactors for biomass conversion (furnace, gasifier...)
