Description
The students will gain knowledge in overall oil/gas production starting from reservoirs types to the production of final end products in downstream refining. In addition to this, some insights are also provided for industrial production of Ammonia and Methanol.
Offshore/Reservoir and Upstream Processing
1. Downhole processes:
• Outline how the offshore industry developed.
• Explain and draw the various ways that oil and gas accumulations can form into underground reservoirs.
• Define the various reservoir drive mechanisms and explain how to identify the drive mechanism.
• Describe water injection and gas injection systems and identify the best offshore pressure maintenance approach.
2. Surface processing, Treatment overview
• Draw block diagrams and explain gas treatment, oil treatment and produced water treatment surface facilities
• Provide an overview of product specifications.
• Important aspect os separation processes encountered in oil and gas surface processing plant.
• Commonly employed unit pertations in oil and gas surface processing plants, these unit operations are absorption, distillation, multi-stage flash separation.
3. NGL/ Gas processing
• Important gas specification and end their use.
• Reasons behind water dew point control. A valuable technique for dehydration and basic design concepts of some of the techniques
• Understanding reasons behind hydrocarbon dew point control. Available Techniques for gas hydrocarbon dew point control and basic design concepts of some of the techniques
• Understanding reasons behind acid gas removal. Available techniques for sweetening and basic design concepts of some of the techniques
• Criteria on process selection and location for gas treatment processing
4. Refining Processes
• Distillation processes/Mac Cable method, material balance around the column, estimation of the number of th e trays
• Cooking processes and FCC(Fluid catalytic cracking)
• Crude oil distillation / Vacuum distillation processes
• Catalytic Reforming
• Alkylation and hydrotreating
5. Monomers-Ex syngas processes
• Syn-gas based units
• Hydrogen production plant
• Ammonia synthesis
• Methanol synthesis
