Description

The purpose of this course is to engage students who must write essays and other assignments for exams or coursework. The course is designed to provide students as much hands-on experience as possible. The course will cover general concepts in writing, how to find suitable sources, how to approach the sources critically, how to avoid plagiarism, summarizing and paraphrasing, planning the structure of a piece of writing, note-making, citing and references, combining sources, organizing paragraphs, re-writing and proofreading.

By the end of this class students should be able to:

·        Identify the principles of effective academic writing.

·        Synthesize information from research sources, cite the sources correctly, and develop their own position on the topic.

Plan, draft, revise, edit, and proofread a piece of writing.
