Littérature britannique TD
Description
This unit aims to expose students to the in-depth study of a literary work chosen from a wide range of texts in English (Irish literature, English literature, or postcolonial literature).
The seminars seek to develop the students’ skills in text analysis. The methodology of close reading, combined with historical and cultural contextualization, is central to the seminar. The students practice text analysis in writing and are encouraged to do oral presentations focusing on specific excerpts. Reading, writing and speaking skills are developed in relation to argumentative analysis.
Paper copies of the texts under scrutiny are obligatory in class.
Students have the choice of one seminar devoted to the analysis of a single work over the course of the semester. The historical frameworks to which the various literary works on offer belong are extremely varied, from the Middle Ages to the contemporary period. Occasionally, certain works are studied in relation to specific film adaptations.
