This unit seeks to place literary works in their historical and cultural context, while exploring their artistic dimension. It will introduce students to the tools, methods and practices of textual analysis.

CM Modes of fiction:
This course introduces students to the analysis of fiction and its specific tools. It explores the diversity of fictional genres from the Middle Ages to the present. Excerpts from various British and American literary texts will be studied in class.
Reading and writing skills are developed in relation to argumentative analysis.

AND
TD American Literature:
Using one particular work as a point of entry into contemporary American fiction, this course will seek to develop the students’ analytical skills, their ability to present arguments in a structured and persuasive way and their sensitivity to the multiple dimensions of the literary experience. The relationship between the literary text and contemporary American society and art will also be studied.

Des extraits du film The Great Gatsby de Baz Luhrmann (2013) seront montrés en classe.
