The course addresses the following questions: What are the limits of our knowledge? How do certain concepts or categories arise and evolve in the course of history? What are the theoretical frameworks and methods used within a given science or practice? The course looks at some classical works in the field of philosophy, epistemology, and history of science (K. Popper, T. S. Kuhn), addresses the historical epistemology of concepts, such as classification, objectivity, quantification, and specific notions, such as truth, rationality, confidence, belief, uncertainty, fact, experiment.

Compétences visées

This course aims to engage students in a critical reflection on knowledge, at the level of scientific and philosophical concepts as well as at the level of scientific, administrative, economic or societal practices.
